Philosophy and Asana Course with Helen Clay

Saturdays 2.00 – 4.30pm Saturday

20 January / 17 February/ 17 March 2018

Cost £48.00 when booking for the whole course

Yoga is an ancient subject that, transplanted from India, has expanded rapidly and recently in the West, with classes focusing primarily on asana and its many health benefits. But how does modern yoga differ from other stretch and strengthen classes on offer? This short course looks at whether and how the practice of asana connects to yoga’s ancient philosophy and history. Our focus will be on the eight limbs of classical yoga as defined by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras.

We will:

examine the place of the eight-limbs in relation to the stated goals of classical yoga

explore each of the eight limbs and their relevance to day to day life

find ways to apply the eight limbs apply to yoga practice on and off the mat.
